Rita Carnes

I just moved into an apartment from a single family home and my dogs are a barking mess. Every single noise gets them barking and I can't get them to stop. I bought a barking whistle and it doesn't even phase them. Is there any products out there proven to stop barking or something I can try to get them to stop as soon as they start. My old ways of shushing them doesn't work here?

Well, my yorkie is a barker . He is only 2 ,but when he barks I put him in my lap and start talking all smooth like. Also there is a clicker . A clicker is a tool, used by professional trainers that gets the dog's attention and when he or she quits barking reward with a chewy dog treat or their favorite toy .

Spray bottle with water! Helps my dog a lot.

Did they bark at your old house? Try to figure out the motivation for their barking.

And do they need more exercise??

Just tell then that you are boss and make a noise that they have never heard before. When or if they stop barking, give them a treat or an award. They will eventually stop barking. If that doesn't work, use a spray bottle to spray them.

Try using a bark collar as those sometimes do the trick.  When the dog barks the collar sends a sensation to the neck.  Does not hurt them but because its different they won't like it so the barking may cease.

One thing you can try is putting some pennies in a can, then shake it when they bark. The noise usually startles them. If they don't like water, you could also use a spray bottle to squirt them when they bark. The only other things I can think of are shock collars, and those don't even work sometimes. They can also agitate the dog even more. Good luck.
