My dachsund gets plaque easily. Can I use people tooth paste with or without flouride on her? I am presently using a natural dog tooth paste and dog rinse, but would like to use something less expensive and more effective if possible.

My dog just had her annual wellness exam. The vet noted that she chipped a molar due to aggressive chewing. There is a little pulp exposure but my dog is completely unbothered by this. Even when i actually touch the broken tooth she is not bothered at all. The vet said she needs a root canal at approx. $1200-$1500 or she may end up with gum disease which can in turn affect her liver and kidneys. Does this sound right?
